I just love it. =3!
Feb. 9th, 2010 10:56 amYou know....I love it when age doesn't get in the way of friendship. I'm sure it's more common than I think, but... It's the kinds of friendships where nearly 50 years in age difference means......nothing. ~<3 A co-worker of mine, June, will be retiring come....well....June. ^,^;; She'll be 74 this year (I'll be 25 come the end of this year), and...what can I say, she's just one of those precious people in my life.
I started working over here....mmm....I dunno...year and a half ago, give or take? For the first six months or so I....kind of saw her around....she sits right near the room I pick up the mail from so she was hard to miss in that sense. But I'm not much of a socialite. I'm more likely to tuck away into a corner somewhere and listen and observe and remain as invisible as I usually am. (And yes....I have had people /looking/ for me when I'm, quite literally, sitting /right/ in front of them about ten feet away....I can truly be one of those invisible people)
I don't remember the first time we talked, to be honest. It was likely one of those times where I attempted to be social and get to know some of my co-workers by standing nearby while two or three others were having one of those open converstations and pretending I was part of it all along, maybe even saying a breif sentence to make it seem like I was. Or maybe I went to her for help on something, and seeing as she's been here so long she was the most likely to have an answer for me.
Whatever it was that first got us talking, we've been talking ever since. She's one of those neat people that's just so easy to talk to. Even when she's sick and should be at home, she always greets you with a big, bright, and sincere smile. She's funny and a bit snarky, not easily intimidated and not afraid to tell you how it is....in a way that doesn't bite as much as it might coming from someone else. On top of all that we've a lot in common, from our love of creepy games, rainy days and stuffed animals, to pet peeves, and many of our opinions on things. I'm....really gonna miss sneaking over to talk to her when she leaves....
Anyway...got an email today from one of the other Administrative Support Staff asking if I'd like to help plan June's retirement party since she considers me such a close friend. *blush!* Of course my answer was that I'd be honored to! And so it starts. *sighs* I don't want her to leave...can't she work another year and leave at the same time I do? Ah well...she will be greatly missed...~<3
