It's been a hard night...

I had to put my dog down tonight.  I knew I wouldn't have her too much longer, half a year, maybe a little more, so tonight was a bit of a surprise, but...

Yeah....

...She started bleeding tonight from her vulva, and we've noticed...a smell.  Vet confirmed she had a uterine infection, and it needed to come out.  She's been deteriorating over the last year, and she was fourteen (average for small dogs is 15, so she was old...), and there was a very, very high risk of spreading infection......with all of that, and the fact that I just...don't have the money right now....we ended up putting her down tonight.

My nephew was a blessing, though.  He brought a lightness to the situation that wouldn't have been there otherwise.  Just talking, and getting us to smile and even laugh.  And he's....learned something tonight.  We got home and spent a time just hugging each other and crying each other's shoulder.  He's such a precious boy, and I'm so glad he wanted to come with my mom and me tonight.

So....yeah.  R.I.P. Tiki. I'll miss you baby. ~<3

That it is. It's not the first time we've lost a dog in the family, not even the first time I've been there when they go, just...the first time it's been my dog and not my mom's...

It certainly is one of the hardest choices to make, but yes...yes she's not suffering anymore. For that I'm glad.
